Known as the “Gateway to the West”, this massive monument made of steel reaches 630 feet high making it the tallest monument in the United States. It was constructed in 1963 with the last section put into place in late 1965. Underneath the north and south legs of the Arch, you can board one of two enclosed trams. The narrated trip lasts four minutes and it takes you to the Gateway Observation area. Here you can view the city of St. Louis and the Mississippi River, as far as the eye can see.
After taking in the splendor of the view from the top, return to ground level and visit the Jefferson National Memorial park and museum. Here travelers learn more about the Arch by watching a documentary film about the history of the Arch in the Imax theater, shop for memorabilia and even take in a new view of the Arch on our riverboat cruise down the Mississippi River.
Visit the official website of the Gateway Arch linked at the bottom of the page for more information.
